The Berwyn Neighborhood Greenway project is Underway!

Work has begun on the Berwyn Neighborhood Greenway project which we announced during our Infrastructure Town Hall. The greenway is a 2.5 mile family-friendly bike route connecting the North Shore Channel Trail to the Lakefront Trail! Project benefits include:

  • Lower vehicle speeds and higher comfort for all users of the street.

  • Low-stress alternative to Foster Avenue where families and children can feel comfortable biking.

  • Better organized street with dedicated space for everyone.

  • Improved access to the lakefront and other community destinations, such as local businesses and the Berwyn CTA station.

  • New traffic signal at Ashland to help people walking and biking cross the busy intersection.

This project is one part of the Far Northside Bike Network which will be completed during 2024 and 2025. Visit our blog to find more information about this project, including a diagram of the plan for connecting Berwyn to the Lakefront Trail at the Berwyn/Sheridan intersection.

48th Ward Make Way for People Projects

Make Way for People is a Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) initiative that aims to create safe, walkable neighbors that support local business and strengthen neighbors’ sense of place by converting neighborhood streets, sidewalks, plazas and alleys into places for people to sit, eat, and play.

During our Infrastructure Town Hall, we shared updates about Make Way for People Projects in the 48th ward including Elise Malary Plaza, the Devon People Spot, and new seating along Broadway. Read about other 48th ward projects here. Read more about Make Way for People here.

Participatory Budgeting Update: Proposed Projects

For the first time ever, we're asking 48th ward neighbors to help us decide how to spend $1M of our infrastructure budget!

Earlier this year and last, we asked our neighbors to share ideas for how we should spend our menu funds. We held a series of participatory budgeting community meetings to help narrow these ideas down. See a list of the proposed projects below:

  • T-Intersection Safety

  • Lakefront Bench Upgrades

  • Sheridan Road Crosswalks

  • Raised Intersections

  • Mural

  • Senn Playground Nature Play Space

  • And more!

Keep up to date with our newsletter and social media accounts in the coming weeks as we share information about voting and start planning for PB 2025!

Hollywood Resurfacing

Resurfacing resumed this week on Hollywood. CDOT is currently working on the stretch of Hollywood between Winthrop and Sheridan. This construction is part of CDOT's Arterial Street Resurfacing - North Area Project and will include ADA sidewalk improvements, curb and gutter removal/replacement, pavement patching, milling, and striping.

During construction, temporary “No Parking” signs will be periodically installed as required for each activity listed above.  These temporary signs will restrict parking during working hours, while adhering to rush hour restrictions, for the completion of the work.  All work on this corridor is scheduled to be completed October 25, 2024.
