48th Ward Office Guidelines
Equal Opportunity Statement: The 48th ward office proudly serves all constituents regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or economic status. We are committed to fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and equitable environment for everyone in our community.
Our guidelines aim to foster an environment that embodies empowerment, antiracism, community, service, and joy while ensuring a safe and welcoming space for everyone.
To support this shared vision, we ask all who visit or interact with our Ward office to respect the following community-based guidelines, ensuring that our space remains open and inviting for all:
Uplift Community Spirit: Engage with staff and fellow constituents in a way that fosters mutual respect, joy, and inclusiveness.
Create Safe Spaces: Avoid any actions or language that disrupt the safety, office operations, and comfort of others, including harassing, intimidating, or making others uncomfortable through words or actions. No cursing or verbal abuse is allowed toward staff members or other neighbors while in the ward office or via our official communication channels.
Act With Integrity: Refrain from any illegal activities or inappropriate behavior that might undermine the sense of trust and safety we strive to build in our office and community.
Respect Personal Boundaries: Please avoid taking photos or videos of staff or constituents without their express consent, as it is important to honor everyone's privacy.
Care for Our Shared Space: Ensure your presence contributes positively to our environment. Keep aisles, entrances, and exits clear, and please avoid leaving personal items unattended.
Support Vulnerable Members of Our Community: Do not leave children or vulnerable adults unattended. We strive to ensure that everyone feels safe and cared for while in our space.
Embrace Collaboration, Not Interruption: We encourage thoughtful and productive conversations. However, please be mindful of staff availability and limit unplanned conversations to under 10 minutes to respect the time of others and ensure smooth office operations.
Practice Responsible Advocacy: Should you wish to distribute materials or solicit community support, please seek permission from the office in advance.
Respect Office Boundaries: Non-public areas of the office are reserved for staff use only. Please respect these spaces to ensure our team can work effectively. Signage is posted at the front desk.
Uplift the Integrity of Services: Refrain from misusing or abusing the services offered by our office or the City of Chicago. Our services are meant to empower and support our community. Any attempt to use City services negatively toward someone else will not be tolerated and will result in denial of services.
The 48th ward office values a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all. We reserve the right to refuse service to individuals who disrupt this ethos or engage in behavior that hinders the operations of the office. We ask that all interactions align with our shared values of respect, service, and community engagement. Thank you for helping us create a space where everyone can thrive.
