Ward Night Recap: August 15, 2024

text reads ward night 1st and 15th of the month. Includes Leni's logo and contact information

Thanks to everyone who attended our August 15 Ward Night. Here’s a brief summary of what we discussed:

  • Support for Unhoused Neighbors. Learn more about accelerated moving events (AMEs) here. Use 988 as a mental health resource for yourself and others. Call 911 if there is an active threat to your or someone else’s safety. Contact info@the48thward.org for more information.

    • We are actively working to support our unhoused neighbors through partnership with DFSS and by supporting development of affordable housing. See and leave feedback open development projects here.

    • Please continue to reach out to our office regarding specific incidents and concerns related to the tent communities so that we can coordinate with city departments to get our neighbors the help they need while maintaining our public spaces

Public Safety/6000 Block of N Kenmore: Our office has been working dilligently with community leaders, Chicago Public Schools, Communities Partnering for Peace, landlords, the Chicago Police Department, and the Sheriff’s Office to respond to crime in this part of our ward. Read more about our work here.

  • Shred Events: We’re planning another shred event for sometime this fall! In the mean time, the city has a variety of facilities where you can safely dispose of unwanted materials that you can not recyle in your own home such as electronics, prescription medication, and cleaning chemicals. Learn more here.

  • Youth Involvement Initiatives: Our office is committed to offerring opportunities for our community’s youth to be involved and engaged. Over the summer, we supported youth employment efforts through the Chicago Park District and the Mayor’s One Summer Chicago initiative. We were also thrilled to reopen the Broadway Armory as a community center with youth Summer programming. Recently, we hosted the first meeting of our 48th Ward Youth Advisory Council where young people told us about issues that matter to them. We look forwarding to continuing to work with them to find solutions. Subscribe to the newsletter and follow us on social media where we’ll continue to share news about youth opportunities and programming.

Register for the next Ward Night on Monday, September 16 here. Note that our September 1 Ward Night has been cancelled in observance of Labor Day, and our September 15 Ward Night has been moved to the 16th to ensure it takes place on a weekday. Thank you for your understanding.
