Ward Night Recap: September 2, 2025
Thanks to everyone who attended our September 2, Ward Night. Here’s a brief summary of what we discussed:
How we Support Unhoused Neighbors. Many neighbors, especially those who live along the lakefront, have seen people living in tents. We coordinate with local organizations and city departments daily to connect people with the housing, health, and safety resources they need. Read more about our strategy here.
Potential National Guard Deployment to Chicago. President Trump is once again threatening to deploy the National Guard to Chicago. Our state and city governments are aligned on this: Chicago is not calling for military occupation and we are working together to evaluate all legal options to protect everyone who calls Chicago home. Read Alderwoman Manaa-Hoppenworth’s full response here.
Fire at Porkchop. The latest updates we’ve received from law enforcement is that fire at Porkchop over the weekend was an accidental greasefire. They are conducting a full investigation into the incident.
Upcoming Town Halls. We invite everyone to join us at our upcoming Infrastructure Town Hall (September 3 at 6pm) and to our Transit Town Hall later this month (September 20 at 12pm).
Granville Traffic Calming. One ways are in place on Granville along with a raised intersection at Glenwood and neighbors are already noticing a reduction in traffic. Read more about this project here.
Participatory Budgeting (2026). Community engagement will begin soon for PB 2026! Submit project ideas in advance through one of the forms on this page. Read about the projects that were funded in 2025 here.
