Thanks to everyone who attended our September 1, 2026 Ward Night. Here’s a summary of what we discussed:

  • DISABLED PARKING APPLICATION. One neighbor attended the meeting to follow up on a disabled parking application. Disabled parking applications are managed by the Department of Finance (DOF). See a PDF of the application here and feel free to contact our office for assistance.

  • BIKE LANE REPAINTING. After to recent reconstruction on Glenwood between Ridge and Bryn Mawr, the contraflow bike lanes have yet to be repainted. We are in touch with CDOT to resolve this. Though it can take a few weeks for bike lanes to be repaved after street resurfacing, we encourage neighbors who notice this issue to report it to our office.

  • BIKING NEAR GOUDY ELEMENTARY. Goudy Elementary recently installed a gates on the east side of the building, cutting off Winthrop between Winona and Foster to through traffic when the gates are closed. Neighbors at Ward Night discussed various solutions for helping cyclists and pedestrians understand and access alternate routes; the 48th Ward team will continue to review these solutions with Goudy and city departments.

  • PROTECTING RENTERS ORDINANCE. The Protecting Renters Ordinance (PRO) is a modernization of Chicago's 40-year-old Residential Landlord and Tenant Ordinance (RLTO) that addresses junk fees, rental registries, and just cause for eviction, among other things. Neighbors in attendance were largely supportive of the PRO, with some raising concerns about the disparate effects of the ordinance on large vs. small landlords.

  • EMANUEL CONGREGATION / FERN HILL REDEVELOPMENT. Emanuel Congregation has been a beloved neighbor and part of our Edgewater community for over 70 years, but their building is at the end of its useful life. To secure Emanuel’s future in Edgewater for years to come, they’ve partnered with Fern Hill to develop a new synagogue facility with housing. Learn more about this project here.

  • TRAFFIC AT BROADWAY & DEVON/SHERIDAN. The intersection near Loyola’s campus where Broadway meets Sheridan as Sheridan becomes Devon is very busy with cars and pedestrians. One neighbor identified the need for an additional merge sign where one lane of traffic ends. Our team will look into this problem in collaboration with the 49th Ward, who we share our northern border with.
