Thanks to everyone who attended our March 4 Ward Night. Here’s a brief summary of what we discussed:

  • Local Effects of Federal Changes. On December 1, Ald. Manaa-Hoppenworth signed onto a resolution encouraging city departments to assess and prepare for the impact of the impending Trump Administration on city resources. Read about that resolution here. Read about how we’re protecting our values, especially regarding immigration, under this new administration here. Learn about immigrants’ constitutional rights and what you can do to keep your neighbors safe here. We will continue to stand by our values in the face of obstacles set at the federal level.

  • Reduced Speed Limit. In February, City Council voted 28-21 against reducing Chicago’s speed limit from 30 to 25. Ald. Manaa-Hoppenworth was one of the 21 who voted in favor of the ordinance because of a desire to increase traffic safety for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists alike.

  • CTA President. Nora Leerhsen is acting president of the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) following former president Dorval Carter’s retirement in February 2025. In May, 2024, Ald. Manaa-Hoppenworth co-sponsored a resolution calling for Dorval Carter’s resignation due to consistent issues with service frequency and hiring. Read more here.

  • CTA Under L Activation. At the end of February, RPM unveiled their plans for the Under L community spaces between Lawrence and Bryn Mawr. This project represents a once-in-a-lifetime investment in the kind of safe, accessible, and beautiful spaces our community deserves. Learn more and see concept renderings here.

  • Public Safety in the 48th Ward. Public safety is a top priority of our office. Read about our Safe 48 Health & Safety Plan here. We encourage our neighbors to attend community safety meetings such as District Council monthly meetings and beat meetings. We include all meeting dates for districts and beats that overlap with the 48th ward on our calendar. See a full list of 48th ward beat meetings for 2025 here. Find out what district and beat you live in here.

Going forward, our ward nights will be held on the first and third Tuesday of every month. See this change reflected on our community calendar on our website.

Register for the next Ward Night on Tuesday, March 18 here.
