Ward Night Recap: July 1, 2025
Thanks to everyone who attended our July 1 Ward Night. Ward Night is a chance for community to lead the conversation through a group Q&A. Here’s a brief summary of what we discussed:
Construction Season: Summer is construction season! We’re seeing unprecedented investment in our ward’s infrastructure including a $9 million sewer replacement project on Ridge and pedestrian safety improvements along Granville. We encourage our neighbors to subscribe to our newsletter for regular construction updates and impact details.
CTA Stations Opening: New CTA red line stations open in the 48th ward on July 20! In 2020, CTA began the ambitious and historic journey to modernize our 100-year-old stations and elevated tracks to improve service, invest in our community, and generate inclusive economic growth across our city. These new stations are designed to serve our community better, with modern amenities including full ADA accessibility, escalators, elevators, wider platforms, enhanced lighting and security and real-time travel Information displays. Read more about the new stations in CTA’s press release here.
CTA Staging Parcels: CTA has 5 plots of land they’re currently using to stage materials for RPM construction. When the stations open, CTA will be looking to sell these plots. We hope to use one of these for a Green Social Housing development.
CTA President Search: Earlier this year, Leni joined colleagues in calling for a nationwide search for new CTA president. She will continue encouraging the Mayor to conduct a comprehensive, broad-reaching search for for someone with the user experience and technical expertise necessary to deliver badly-needed improvements equitably and efficently.
Broadway Land Use: With transit opening in tandem with our Broadway Land Use project, we are working to bring deep, permanent affordability to the ward. To show your support for Broadway rezoning, send us an email at info@the48thward.org, email the Director of the Chicago Committee on Zoning Nicole Wellhausen at Nicole.Wellhausen@CityofChicago.org, or attend the zoning committee meeting on July 15 at 10am.
Argyle Night Market: The 2025 Argyle Night Market season begins Thursday, July 3. The market runs from 5-9pm on summer Thursdays and features food from local Argyle restaurants and live cultural and musical performances on Thursday evenings through the end of August. Visit the 48th ward’s table at each market to access city services on the go! Read more about this year's market here.
Several New Businesses are Coming to Bryn Mawr: We’re excited to welcome many new businesses to the Bryn Mawr corridor including Teranga, Hamburger Mary’s, Fried Egg Cafe, Solar Intentions, Transistor Chicago, Poet Ape Productions, and Andersonville Mindfulness & Psychology. Read our recent press release to read more about these and other recent transplants to Bryn Mawr.
Edgewater Historical Society Walking Tours: The Edgewater Historical Society hosts guided historical walking tours of various regions of our community. Learn more here.
Green Social Housing: Green Social Housing is sustainable, affordable housing that does not depend on federal subsidy. Alderwoman Manaa-Hoppenworth championed the GSH ordinace which passed City Council last month.
Participatory Budgeting: Partcipatory Budgeting is a process through which the community decides how we spend $1 million in public infrastructure funds. The community brainstorming process for PB 2026 will begin this autumn. See the PB 2025 winning projects here.
