2025 Annual Report on Homelessness
On July 17, the Department of Family & Support Services published the city’s Annual Homelessness Report. This annual report is intended to inform members of the public on the City's housing and homelessness systems and provide the most recent available data and outcomes to show the progress those systems are making.
The City’s annual Point-In-Time (PIT) Count of people experiencing homelessness estimated 6,136 people in sheltered locations and 1,316 individuals in unsheltered locations on January 23, 2025. This is a 60% decrease from the 2024 PIT Count of 18,836 people experiencing homelessness. However, homelessness in Chicago remains at a high point relative to the past two decades, since Chicago began conducting PIT Counts in 2005. This year, among the sheltered population, about 32% (1,943) of those experiencing homelessness in the 2025 PIT Count were children under the age of 18.
