Ward Night Recap: August 26, 2025
Thanks to everyone who attended our August 26 Ward Night. Here’s a brief summary of what we discussed:
Emanuel Congregation - Potential Development at Sheridan and Thorndale. Currently, Emanuel Congregation has made no firm development plans but does wish to stay in the 48th ward, the community that has been their home for decades. a representative from Emanuel came to confirm that there are no plans set-in-stone and that the ward and office and the community will both be informed if any plans are made. See more details in our August 5 Ward Night recap.
Infrastructure Town Hall. The 48th Ward Office is hosting our 2025 Infrastructure Town Hall on Wednesday, September 3 at 6pm at Bramble Arts Loft (5545 N Clark). Join us to talk about current infrastructure improvements, local developments, major construction, and the participatory budgeting process. DWM will also join us to present on the current sewer main project and an upcoming water main project. RSVP here.
Zoning Processes. Any development that requires a zoning change triggers a community engagement process. Letters of support are a part of the community engagement process, serving as a way for organizations and institutions to provide a collective opinion on a development. Learn more about 48th ward zoning change and development processes here.
Chicago’s Sanctuary City Status. Sanctuary cities are those with policies that limit compliance and cooperation with federal immigration agents. In light of President Trump’s threats to deploy National Guard Troops to Chicago, we want to reaffirm our committment to protecting Chicago’s sanctuary city status and protecting all of our neighbors, regardless of how you came to our community.
