Welcome 48th Ward Summer Interns!

48th Ward Summer Interns (from left to right): Shazeen Khan, Abbey Cavitt, and Fabreeze Njei

The 48th ward office is excited to welcome three interns for the Summer! Shazeen, Abbey, and Fabreeze will be working in our office and throughout the ward over the next few months!

Shazeen Khan (she/her/hers), Development Intern
Shazeen was born and raised in Chicago and has lived on the North Side all her life. She is a rising junior at Loyola University Chicago, majoring in political science with a minor in finance. Shazeen also interned with the 48th Ward office during her spring semester of 2024 (she loved it so much that we convinced her to come back for the summer)! Shazeen enjoys watching sitcoms, cooking, and playing with her dog, Prince. She also loves coffee, so you can catch her trying different cafes and coffee shops in the ward.

Abbey Cavitt (she/her/hers), Summer Events Intern
Abbey was born and raised in the 48th Ward. She is entering her final year at Trinity College Dublin where she is majoring in political science and economics and minoring in sociology and philosophy. Abbey is a member of the Elizabethan Society — a women and gender minorities focused debating society — at her university. She has been involved with the 48th Ward since 2015 including as a member of the Youth Advisory Council and as an After School Matters Intern. Previously, she served as an intern with the Illinois Department of Human Rights where she worked on fair housing policy. In her free time, Abbey enjoys watching movies, rewatching Survivor, and playing board games with her family. If you're out and about, you might find her enjoying the weather on one of the many restaurant patios in the ward.

Fabreeze Njei (he/him/his), Neighborhood Services Intern/Mikva Fellow

Fabreeze a Chicago native and a recent high school graduate. In school, he developed a keen interest in the shortcomings in political system management — particularly in addressing unity and racial injustice — and the need for greater priorities and unity awareness. When he's not captivated by screens, he tends to dive in the world into world of creativity, exploring everything from graffiti art to digital design. With Chicago as his canvas and arts as his muse, Fabreeze’s journey is a blend of imagination and exploration.
