Ward Night Recap: September 16, 2025

text reads ward night 1st and 15th of the month. Includes Leni's logo and contact information

Thanks to everyone who attended our September 16 Ward Night. Here’s a brief summary of what we discussed:

  • Broadway Land Use Framework. Alds. Manaa-Hoppenworth, Martin, and Clay have introduced a series of zoning ordinances in City Council in an effort to simplify the zoning along Broadway making it easier for small businesses to move and expand and for developers to build affordable housing near our new CTA redline stations.

    • These ordinances are a reflection of our community-built Broadway Land Use Framework which was developed through an extrensive community process and prioritizes pedestrian-friendly mixed-use development.

    • The zoning ordinances have been deferred to the October City Council Meeting

    • To show your support for Broadway rezoning, send us an email at info@the48thward.org, email the Director of the Chicago Committee on Zoning Nicole Wellhausen at Nicole.Wellhausen@CityofChicago.org

  • Recent Public Safety Incidents. Our office sent out a public safety alert on September 15. Read it here. If you would like to opt in to receive occasional crime alerts from our office, you can do so by checking the appropriate box on this page. Doing so will not cancel or double your existing newsletter subscription.

    • Public safety is our office's top priority. Our Safe 48 Health and Safety Plan focuses on coordination and collaboration across government agencies, community-based organizations, and neighbors. To get involved, join your next Beat Meeting, District Council meeting, or Block Club meeting. Find information about local Block Clubs here on our website. Public Safety meetings can be found on our community calendar.

    • The impact of violence extends beyond immediate victims to family members, friends, neighbors, and other community members. If you need support or have questions, contact Crime Victim Services at 312-745-6340 or crimevictimservices@chicagopolice.org.

    • For additional mental health support, visit the City's UnSpoken page or call the National Alliance on Mental Illness Chicago Helpline at 833-626-4244 (833-NAMI-CHI)

  • Lakefront Clean Up Opportunities. The 48th Ward is home to multiple organizations doing environmental stewardship work! Interested in joining a cleanup initiative?
