Ward Night Recap: June 17, 2025

text reads ward night 1st and 15th of the month. Includes Leni's logo and contact information

Thanks to everyone who attended our June 17 Ward Night. Here’s a brief summary of what we discussed:

  • How to get in touch with our office: Ward Night meetings are one of many ways to get in touch with Ald. Manaa-Hoppenworth and our office. We also encourage you to email us at info@the48thward.org, call us at 773-784-5277, or submit a service request online when you notice concerns or issues in the neighborhood. We also encourage you to subscribe to our newsletter to be the first to hear about community meeting and events!

  • Ridge closures and detours: The Department of Water Management (DWM) is working on a $9 million sewer main and lead service replacement project in the ward! This is a once-in-a-lifetime investment in our ward’s infrastructure but we can’t accept the dangerous vehicle behavior we’re seeing on our residential streets. We’ve been workin with CDOT to respond to constituent reports with new traffic closures and signage. See the most up ot date changes here.

  • New business development along Bryn Mawr: We’re looking forward to welcoming six new businesses to Bryn Mawr, some of whom have already opened their doors. With our office located right next to the Bryn Mawr red line station, we’ve had a front row seat to the revitalization of the corridor, and we couldn’t be happier to welcome our new neighbors.

  • RPM - New stations opening: The new red line stations are officially scheduled to open July 20! These new stations are designed to serve our community better, with modern amenities including full ADA accessibility, escalators, elevators, wider platforms, enhanced lighting and security and real-time travel Information displays. This is more than a station opening — it’s a celebration of progress and community. Stay tuned for ribbon cutting details.

  • Green Social Housing: Green Social Housing is sustainable, affordable housing that does not depend on federal subsidy. Alderwoman Manaa-Hoppenworth championed the GSH ordinace which passed City Council last month.

  • Broadway Refuge Islands: These plans are still in progress but are taking longer than expected because they are an IDOT initiative. Please continue contacting our office to express your support for the construction of better pedestrian safety infrastructure.

  • Broadway Development: The Broadway Zoning Ordinances will go before the City Council in July. Aside from the zoning right-sizing, there are many exciting developments and development opportunities popping up along Broadway including 5853 N Broadway (Bickerdike) which plans to break ground this fall and Green Social Housing which hope to put CTA staing parcels to good use.
