Think Before You Hate

Leni speaking to 48th ward neighbors

This week, Leni was out canvassing the neighborhood to tell folks about the Chicago Commission on Human Relations' Think Before You Hate campaign.

The Think Before You Hate campaign aims to teach people about the difference between a hate crime and a hate incident. Leni was proud to support the Chi vs. Hate oridnance in City Council which created the "hate incident" category for non-criminal acts that are motivated by bias against someone's race, color, gender identity, age, religion, disability, national origin, ancestry, or sexual orientation. We know that non-criminal acts of hate can often escalate to the level of hate crime. Reporting hate incidents helps us stop hate in its tracks.

Learn more about the different between a hate incident and a hate crime from the graphic below. For information about hateful graffiti specifically, see this document. Remember to report hate crimes to the police and hate incidents to 311.
