Response To Public Safety Concerns at 6000-002 N Kenmore

Public safety is our office's top priority. Our Safe 48 Health and Safety Plan focuses on coordination and collaboration across government agencies, community-based organizations, and neighbors. To get involved, join your next Beat Meeting, District Council meeting, or Block Club meeting. Find information about local Block Clubs here on our website. Public Safety meetings can be found on our community calendar.

Our office understands that there has been rising concern over issues at 6000-002 N Kenmore. The Alderwoman is in constant contact with local Police Commanders regarding public safety and additional patrols. Our office has taken the following steps to ensure that your feedback is heard and we respond as a community to these acts of violence. We appreciate your engagement, as it helps us push for a better public safety system for all of our neighbors.

  • We have spoken to Acorn Management and building ownership and they are cooperating with CPD on the investigation into the perpetrators with specialized CPD units. Our office is also working in coordination with the Cook County Sheriff's Eviction Unit and CPD to ensure any enforcement is as expedient as the law allows.

  • 20th Police District beat cars are providing two premise checks per shift at Swift Elementary, the Thorndale red line station, and the Broadway Armory Park. Shift times are: 2-11pm, 3pm-12am. 6am-3pm, 7am-4pm. Overnight shifts are from 10pm-6am and 11pm-8am.

  • 24th Police District is paying special attention to the area and the tactical unit is providing additional checks near/at the address during overnight shifts. Please note that these units travel in unmarked cars, which is why their presence is often not as noticeable as a typical beat car patrol.

  • In collaboration with community leaders, neighbors, our office, and 24th PD CAPS, we are hosting a “Meet Your Neighbor” event on June 24 from 6-7pm at 5958 N Kenmore. No RSVP needed, all neighbors are encouraged to participate.

  • An outdoor roll call is being planned for sometime this summer on the block. During roll calls, community members will meet officers and learn about safety issues in the area. Roll calls enable police and community members to interact and build trust and foster transparency. Subscribe to our newsletter for information about that event: the48thward.org/news.

Please note: The allocation of additional patrols in certain areas is contingent on existing resources. With numerous special events occurring across the city and the Democratic National Convention (DNC) scheduled for August, police resources are being stretched thin. Despite these challenges, we are committed to ensuring public safety and will continue to make use of all of our resources to provide the necessary patrols and maintain security in all neighborhoods.
