The Department of Water Management (DWM) is working on a $9 million sewer main and lead service replacement project in the 48th Ward. Our sewers along Ridge are some of the oldest in the city (from 1893) and are regularly breaking and leaking. The project will prevent future breaks/leaks, increase sewer capacity, and help to address long-standing flooding issues.

The main sewer line installation on Ridge, Victoria, Olive, and Hollywood is 96% complete. The lead service line replacements are in progress, and the restoration work will follow. The project is currently on schedule and is anticipated to be completed by the end of August (weather permitting). 

Project Updates:

  • Victoria west of Ridge: Main sewer line installation is IN PROGRESS. Catch basins, Lead Service Line Replacement (LSLR) and corrective work is pending. 

  • Olive west of Glenwood: Main sewer line installation is COMPLETE. Lead Service Line Replacement (LSLR) and corrective work is pending.

  • Hollywood west of Ridge: Main sewer line and catch basin installation is COMPLETE. Lead Service Line Replacement (LSLR) is IN PROGRESS. Corrective work is pending. 

  • Ridge: Lead Service Line Replacement is IN PROGRESS.  

Traffic Updates:

  • The official project detour routes are Devon and Foster. We are collaborating with CDOT and DWM to address the dangerous vehicle behavior on our residential streets. See a message from Leni here. Some of the traffic safety changes already implemented include:

  • Added Changeable Message Boards at the following locations:

    • Hollywood and Broadway

    • Bryn Mawr and Clark

    • Clark and Ashland

    • Broadway and Victoria directing traffic to Devon

    • Peterson and Hermitage directing traffic to Ashland/Foster

    • Clark and Ridge directing traffic to Ashland/Foster

  • Added Road Closed / Local Traffic Only signs to the following locations:

    • Clark and Elmdale

    • Broadway and Victoria

    • Broadway and Thorndale

    • Broadway and Norwood

    • Broadway and Glenlake

    • Broadway and Rosemont

  • Added a Left Turn Lane Closures to the following locations:

    • Northbound Broadway at Bryn Mawr

    • Northbound Broadway at Hollywood

    • Southbound Clark at Ridge

    • Southbound Clark at Bryn Mawr

    • Southbound Ashland at Bryn Mawr

    • Southbound Ashland at Balmoral

    • Southbound Clark at Balmoral

  • Added a full Road Closure at Ardmore and Clark; Added waterfilled barricades in the median.

  • Added water-filled barricades at Clark and Ridge. 

  • Added additional detour signage throughout the project (there are over 100 signs)

  • Added more regular traffic control inspections for moved signs

  • Worked with Waze and Google Maps to direct traffic to the detour routes. 

  • Implemented flashing red lights along Ridge

Eastbound buses:

  • Regular route to Ridge/Clark, (turn right)

  • South on Clark into Ashland, (continue)

  • South on Ashland to Foster, (turn left)

  • East on Foster to Broadway, (turn left)

  • North on Broadway to Bryn Mawr, (turn right)

  • East on Bryn Mawr over the regular route.

Westbound buses:

  • Regular route to Thorndale/Broadway, (turn right)

  • North on Broadway to Devon, (turn left)

  • West on Devon to Clark, (turn left)

  • South on Clark to Ridge, (turn right)

  • West on Ridge over the regular route.
