Happy Pride Month 2024!
Happy Pride Month 48th Ward! From the Stonewall riots of 1969 which were led by Black Trans women, to the legalization of gay marriage in 2015, to everything else in between and beyond, Pride has been a celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community, and a protest against anyone who would have us keep our true colors hidden. As the first queer Filipina to serve on the Chicago City Council, I'm honored and excited to be celebrating Pride 2024 with you as your alderwoman.
Read on for ways to get involved this month; Thank you to the many organizations that have come together to offer Pride education and entertainment!
Yours in Community,
Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth
Alderwoman, 48th Ward
City Council Passes Pride Month Resolution
Ald. Manaa-Hoppenworth was proud to cosponser a resolution honoring Pride Month 2024 this week in City Council. Many thanks to trans leader and activist Alexis Martinez for coming to City Hall to represent the 48th ward.
City Council also approved Elise Malary Plaza, the new pedestrian plaza on Catalpa between Clark and Ashland. Elise Malary was a founding member of the Chicago Therapy Collective and a dedicated LGBTQ+ activist. Naming this community space in her honor helps us commemorate the impact Elise had on her neighborhood and city, which she loved and fought for fiercely.
