RECAP: Emanuel Congregation Redevelopment Meeting - Feb 26 (Copy)

On Thursday, February 26, Alderwoman Manaa-Hoppenworth hosted an in-person community meeting about proposed development plans for the Emanuel Congregation Synagogue. Nearly 170 neighbors attended to hear Emanuel Congregation in partnership with Fern Hill Company present their initial plans for 5959/5965 N Sheridan and 5948 N Sheridan. Read more below.

MEETING RECAP

At the meeting, Ald. Manaa-Hoppenworth and her staff welcomed the community and reviewed the zoning change and Planned Development processes. Andrew Degenholtz, Co-President of Emanuel Congregation, explained the context and purpose of this project. The development team then reviewed the initial project plans and introduced concept modifications being explored based on feedback received from congregation members and from neighbors. Plans for 5959/5965 N Sheridan and 5948 N Sheridan are being proposed together as a Planned Development project. View the presentation here.

The meeting ended with a Q&A session and time for neighbors to speak directly to the development team and to Ald. Manaa-Hoppenworth. We’ve collected all comments and questions submitted at the meeting and will ensure that they are provided to the development team.

NEXT STEPS

Please continue to submit feedback via our online feedback form regarding initial plans proposed, the zoning change request, and potential concept modifications. Our online feedback form for these initial plans will close on March 13.

Please note that Ald. Manaa-Hoppenwirth will not approve a zoning change until final plans are vetted and presented to the community for feedback. The zoning change request must be approved in order for the development team to proceed with filing a Planned Development application.

We aim to provide 2-3 weeks notice for the next community meeting for this project.

Thank you to all of the neighbors that have given their feedback so far and who  attended this meeting!
