Construction Updates: October 2, 2024
Please be advised of the following upcoming and ongoing construction in the ward:
First Two Pride Crosswalks outside of North Halsted!
The 48th ward has a brand new pride crosswalk at Clark and Farragut right next to Women & Children First! This initiative was accomplished in partnership with the city's Advisory Council on LGBTQ+ Issues and the Chicago Department of Transportation.
In addition to our new crosswalk, the South Shore neighborhood just got a new pride crosswalk outside of Jeffrey Pub! These are the first two pride crosswalks to be installed outside of the North Halsted neighborhood and they highlight two iconic LGBTQ+ businesses!
The 48th ward is home to one of the largest LGBTQ+ communities in Chicago and this particular Edgewater intersection hosts a mural honoring Elise Malary who was a trans activist, community leader, and dear friend to so many of us. In the 48th ward, and across Chicago, we celebrate our true colors unapologetically and with pride, right down to the paint on our crosswalks!
Bryn Mawr Historic District Decorative Sidewalk Pavers
If you're walking down Broadway past Bryn Mawr, stop and check out these new decorative pavers welcoming you to the Bryn Mawr Historic District! CTA installed these pavers on the northeast and southeast corners of the intersection as part of the RPM project. Learn more about this section of the RPM project here. Bryn Mawr Dog Friendly Area: Drainage & Paving Project
Our office has secured funding from the Chicago Park District to address drainage concerns at the Bryn Mawr Dog Friendly Area. We are rebuilding the entrance and improving grading and drainage to alleviate mud and overflow onto the southern sidewalk. Further, drainage improvements will also be installed inside the dog friendly area to capture runoff. The Bryn Mawr Dog Friendly Area will be closed through late October while this work takes place.
Ongoing Projects
DuSable Lake Shore Drive Resurfacing is well underway. As a reminder, this phase of construction on DLSD is scheduled to wrap up by the end of this month.
Resurfacing work continues on Hollywood with construction expected to end by October 25.
The Berwyn Greenway project is expected to be completed next year. However, if you're regular cyclist, you may have already noticed the new green paint along Berwyn leading toward the lakefront path.
