Celebrating AANHPI Heritage Month 2024
Happy AANHPI Heritage Month! Throughout May, we'll be joining folks across the country to reflect on and celebrate the important role that Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (AANHPIs) have played in our shared history. Whether you're joining the Asian American community on Argyle to celebrate AANHPI heritage in the 48th ward or attending a citywide event/workshop, there are plently of ways to get involved this month.
As the first Filipina elected to serve on the Chicago City Council, I'm proud to represent the Chicago Filipino community, the AANHPI community, and the entire 48th ward. I look foward to celebrating our shared culture and history this month and throughout the year.
Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth

AANHPI Heritage Month Celebration with Mayor Brandon Johnson
Leni, Mayor Brandon Johnson, and 48th ward community leaders celebrated AANHPI Heritage Month earlier this week at the Chicago Cultural Center. At the event, the Mayor and the Alderwoman presented a $10,000 check to Mandala Arts, a performing arts center which connects audiences and students with the vibrancy of the performing arts traditions of South Asia. Mandala Arts partners with a number of CPS schools throughout the city including our very own Peirce Elementary. Congratulations, Mandala Arts!
