CHICAGO — 48th Ward Alderwoman Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth announced her participation in two new city-wide initiatives: Mayor Brandon Johnson’s Guaranteed Income Advisory Group and the Chicago Taskforce on Innovation and Technology.
Guaranteed Income Advisory Group
On May 2, 2024, Mayor Brandon Johnson joined Mayors for a Guaranteed Income (MGI), a nationwide network of mayors advocating for guaranteed income programs. On the same day, he relaunched the Guaranteed Income Advisory Group, which will provide guidance on the eligibility and outreach strategies for Chicago’s guaranteed income pilot.
Guaranteed income programs create an income floor to support the economic security of low-income residents and households. The Chicago guaranteed income pilot provides $500 monthly payments to select low-income residents using remaining federal COVID-19 relief funds.
Ald. Manaa-Hoppenworth is excited to participate in this effort to support underserved populations and increase financial equity throughout the city.
Chicago Taskforce on Innovation and Technology
The mission of the Chicago Taskforce on Innovation and Technology is as follows:
The Chicago Taskforce on Innovation and Technology is a diverse coalition of city leaders and private sector organizations who collaborate to advance new ideas in public safety, smart government, and connected infrastructure. The Taskforce provides input to the City of Chicago on strategies to improve city services through the use of emerging technologies. Taskforce participation is voluntary, and participants provide recommendations with the goal of improving the lives of Chicago residents.
“Technology impacts everything we do and everyone we touch. I believe Chicago finally has a chance to lead on service and address structural inequities if we make the right technology investments,” said Ald. Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth. “I’m excited to join this technology task force.
