Ward Night Recap: October 20, 2026

text reads ward night first and third Tuesday of the month. Includes Leni's logo and contact information

Thanks to everyone who attended our October 20, 2026 Ward Night. Here’s a summary of what we discussed:

  • RODENT ABATEMENT. Although you may most often see rats in the alley, most of the time, that’s not where they come from. Usually rats are burrowing in a backyard with a food source, under a garage, or somewhere else with dirt. Read more here about how to avoid rodents in your yard and alley.

    • It is illegal to feed pigeons, squirrels, and rats in the City of Chicago. Doing so can harm other wildlife and create sanitation issues. If you see someone regularly feeding wildlife, please make a report through 311 and get in touch with our office.

  • SIGN UP TO BE A POLL WORKER. Poll workers including election judges, voter registrars, and early voting officials are needed for the upcoming general election on November 3! Visit the Chicago Board of Elections website here to learn more. Visit our resource guide here for other important voting information.

  • TRAFFIC SAFETY - SHERIDAN ROAD. Recently, Alderwoman Manaa-Hoppenworth worked with Divvy to geofence Sheridan north of Ardmore. This means that electric Divvy bikes and scooters will not work on this portion of Sheridan. This section of N Sheridan Road has a unique set of conditions that made geofencing an appropriate tool in this instance, including high pedestrian activity, a large number of older adults and other vulnerable road users, and nearby parallel bikeways that provide comfortable alternatives for people traveling by bike or scooter.

    • This is one of many strategies we’re implementing to improve safety along Sheridan. At Ward Night, we discussed problems caused by trucks, delivery vehicles, and other kinds of micromobility devices. Learn more about Sheridan traffic safety here.

PLEASE NOTE: To encourage voter turnout on election day, our November 3 Ward Night Meeting has been canceled. Register for the next Ward Night on Tuesday, November 17 here.
