Ward Night Recap: May 13, 2025

Thanks to everyone who attended our May 13 Ward Night. Here’s a brief summary of what we discussed:

  • Search for New CTA President: Leni recently signed onto a letter calling for mayor Brandon Johnson to conduct a nationwide talent search to ensure that the new CTA president has the necessary user/life experience and technical knowledge to make neccessary improvments to our local train and bus systems. Read more here.

  • Under L Activation: Earlier this year, the RPM team unveiled the designs for the public spaces underneath the new L tracks. You can read more and see the designs here. At our ward night meetings, we discussed concerns around keeping these open spaces secure and finding programming to activate them and fill them with people! We look forward to continuing to talk about how to best use these spaces; reach out to info@the48thward.org with ideas and comments.

  • Snap Curfew: Last month, Ald. Hopkins introduced an ordinance to give police the power to impose a “snap curfew” for youth with 30 minutes notice. This is in response to concerns about “teen takeovers” downtown and at the lakefront. Many social justice orgnizations including the ACLU of Chicago have called on the City Council to reject this proposal. This matter is currently on hold.

Our next Ward Night will be held on Tuesday, May 20 from 5:30-6:30pm. Register here.
