Tree Grid Update

The City of Chicago uses a grid system for tree trimming with 1-2 trim crews from the Bureau of Forestry (BoF) trimming trees in a 16-block area, or "grid," on a given day of the week. BoF trims every tree in the grid, and if these trees are properly cared for, they should not need to be trimmed again for at least five years.

August 15, 2025 Update: See the map below for grids that overlap with the 48th Ward. BoF is currently working on N052 W012.

Scheduled Tree Trim: Thursday August 21

Thank you all for your patience during our recent storms, we are attempting to resume to our regular scheduled trimming. Weather and staff permitting this is where trimming will occur.

N52 W12

5300 N ASHLAND

1400, 1500 W FOSTER

5400 N MAGNOLIA

Weather permitting, BoF will be in the ward every Thursday until the grid is finished. We’ll let neighbors know when one grid is completed and the next is scheduled to begin.

You can do your part by looking out for posted “No Parking” signs and by reminding your neighbors to do the same. We also recommend reviewing the city's claims process for trees that impact your property. To report tree emergencies (such as a fallen or hanging tree limb that is blocking the public way or obstructing traffic control measures) contact 311 or our office.
