Meet Our 2026 Summer Interns!
This summer, our office has four incredible interns supporting our work in the 48th Ward. You may have already met them at events like the Argyle Night Market and Midsommarfest or out posting flyers about construction and community resources!
Sarah: Sarah is our Summer Events Intern at the ward office. She tables at neighborhood events, farmers markets, festivals and more, bringing constituent services to the Edgewater community! Sarah is studying psychology and marketing, and volunteers her graphic design skills to local political campaigns. She is also involved in community organizing with Neighbors of Edgewater and Uptown. In her spare time, Sarah enjoys crafts, reading, live music, and all animals!
Meklet: Meklet is a Chicago Native, where she has spent most of her life on the North Side. She recently graduated from the University of Chicago with a double major in Political Science and Global Studies. This summer, she is serving as an Urban Planning & Infrastructure Intern in the ward office, where she assists residents and businesses with constituent concerns, coordinates service requests through the City's 311 system, and helps track infrastructure projects and community initiatives. Outside of work, she enjoys photography, exploring new coffee shops, traveling, and discovering new places to eat around Chicago.
Elie: Elie is our Communications Intern this summer. She helps create and update posts for our blog, organize our systems behind the scenes, and assist constituents with concerns in the office and out in the community. Elie recently graduated from Loyola University Chicago with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and Criminology. She is currently looking forward to starting her first year of law school at Northwestern this fall. In her free time, Elie enjoys playing piano, reading and traveling!
Kasandra: Kasandra Hernandez is a senior at Roosevelt University pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Paralegal Studies with a minor in Criminal Justice. She hopes to build a career as a paralegal, where she can use her legal knowledge to make a meaningful impact. She is currently interning with our neighborhood services department, helping constituents and learning more about how a local government office operates. She has served as an election judge and has mentored first-year students. Outside of academics and work, Kasandra enjoys running and crocheting in her free time. She is passionate about continuous learning and community service.
