NOVEMBER 2023 SMALL BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT

SOMEWHERE TO SHOP - Edgewater Candles - 1050 W Bryn Mawr

Mark Towns and Stephen Pearlman started pouring their own candles as a hobby just a few years ago and soon started selling in local shops, at craft fairs, online, and in their very own Bryn Mawr storefront which opened in 2022. Visit the store to shop candles and other unique gifts. Stop by local festivals and markets and you might also see the candle camper!

SOMEWHERE TO EAT - First Sip Cafe - 1057 W Argyle

Erin and Gigi Hoang grew up on Argyle working in their parents’ Cafe Hoang Restaurant. After graduating from local universities, they opened First Sip Cafe in 2017, becoming one of the first 2nd generation AAPI business owners in the Asia on Argyle corridor. Come by the cafe to study or chat and be sure to try a specialty drink!

SOMETHING TO DO - Big Chicks - 5024 N Sheridan

At Big Chicks, the motto is men and men, women and women, women and men, ALL are welcome! Big Chicks is a friendly neighborhood bar with a rich history as an unconventional, open to all, LGBTQ+ bar. Join them for their events – themes and trivia and art shows, oh my! – and stay for the funky art and the great food from their sister diner Tweet right next door!
