FULL LETTER FROM LOYOLA’S DIRECTOR OF NEIGHBORHOOD INITIATIVES, CECILIA RODRIGUEZ:

Loyola Letterhead

July 29, 2024

Dear Loyola Neighbor,

As we enter the last months of summer, Loyola University Chicago is preparing for the 2024-2025 Academic Year. Next week we will be welcoming approximately 3,000 first year students for a total of 5,000 new and returning students to on-campus housing. As we have done during the past years, we are sending this courtesy letter to inform you of the move-in activities taking place at the Lake Shore Campus on Sunday, August 18th through Saturday, August 24, 2024.

Campus Residence Halls

Loyola move-in staff and volunteers will be organizing and assisting students as they move into residence halls across campus. Friday, August 23rd no move-in will take place. Please take note of the following days and times during which the city has provided a permit to des ignate “no parking” on area streets to facilitate move in. (table on page 2). This will help us accommodate the families and students that will be unloading vehicles.

Thanks to your helpful feedback and more streamlined planning we have reduced the overall number of streets and number of days with parking restrictions by 35% to further alleviate the strain on street parking. If your vehicle is parked on one of these streets during the days/times listed, your vehicle will be relocated by the City of Chicago at your expense. Towing is dictated by the city and is not in Loyola’s control. If your vehicle has been towed, contact Campus Safety at 773-508-SAFE (7233) or call 311, the City’s non-emergency number.

Off-Campus Students

As you know, many upper-class students rent apartments in areas that are not operated by the university. While we do not make special arrangements for these moves, I have requested special attention to no-parking areas around Loyola with Streets and Sanitation. The requested attention includes Loyola, Albion, Arthur, Northshore, Columbia, Wayne, Glenwood, Lakewood, Rosemont, Kenmore, and Winthrop. I do not wish to bother our neighbors any more than we have to with student cars illegally parked in tow-zones, blocking fire hydrants, or blocking driveways and alleys. If these students take an illegal parking risk, they should face the consequences.

Finally, Loyola University Chicago is invested in fostering good relationships between university students and our surrounding neighbors. As a valued neighbor, please know that we are available to you if you would like to discuss Loyola students and their presence in the neighborhood. For questions or concerns during business hours please call 773-508-8840 or email deanofstudents@luc.edu. If it is after business hours and you need to report an issue, please call Campus Safety at 773-508-SAFE (7233). For more information about student-related inquiries, please visit LUC.edu/dos. All members of the Loyola community, including non-Loyola partners and neighbors, have the right to report alleged student misconduct to the University. File a report here.

Thank you very much for your patience. If you have any questions, need any further information, or experience any undue hardships relating to move-in, please, do not hesitate to call me at 773.508.2112 or email crodriguez8@luc.edu. If you would like regular updates from Loyola, join our e-blast by sending me an email.

Sincerely,
