48th Ward Fall Events!
The 48th Ward loves Fall! There are so many ways to get involved throughout the ward this season, including the 48th Ward Halloween Parade, back by popular demand! This year, the parade kicks off at Bromann Park; we can't wait to see everyone's costumes. We'll also be hosting the first ever 48th Ward Fall Jam at the Broadway Armory! This event was developed with our City Partners to ensure that all youth and families can have a celebratory and safe fall season. Stop by to enjoy music with DJ Hot Rod, a food truck, and lots of activities for teens.
Our community is a safer and more vibrant place when we all come together to have fun and celebrate! We look forward to seeing you at the parade, the Fall Jam, pumpkin patches, pumpkin smashes, celebrations in our parks, and much more this season!

Alderwoman Manaa-Hoppenworth is proud to present the 48th Ward Fall Jam! Part of Chicago Fall Fest 2024, this event was developed with our City Partners to ensure that all youth and families can have a celebratory and safe fall season. 48th WARD HALLOWEEN PARADE
When: Saturday, October 26 at 10:00am
Where: Meet at Bromann Park (5400 N Broadway), end at Elise Malary Plaza (Catalpa & Clark)

Join us on October 26 for a Halloween Parade! Meet us at Bromann Park in your Halloween costume at 10:00am. At 10:30am, we'll start walking: west on Balmoral, north on Lakewood, and west on Catalpa, ending at Elise Malary Plaza! Every parade needs spectators - come stand along the route to cheer and see all th costumes!
After the parade, stick around to enjoy more Halloween events in Andersonville with neighbors.

SECOND ANNUAL 48TH WARD HALLOWEEN DECORATION CONTEST
Submissions are open for this year's Halloween decor contest. Whether you're stringing up outdoor lights and props or creating a spooky indoor display, we want to see your decorations! To enter, post pictures of your decorations on Facebook, Instagram, or X and add the hashtag #48thSpookyDecor.
Tag us (@the48thward everywhere) to make sure we see it! Like the other posts under the hashtag. In a few weeks, we'll pull the favorites and put them to a vote in our October 31 newsletter. The winner will receive a gift card to local 48th Ward coffee shop Loaves & Witches! Submissions close Sunday, October 27 at 11:59pm
VOLUNTEER AS A TRICK-OR-TREAT CROSSING GUARD
We're looking for volunteers to serve as crossing guards at busy intersections from 5-7pm this Halloween to help trick-or-treaters navigate traffic. Sign up for an intersection in Lakewood Balmoral or Edgewater Glen using this form. Contact us at info@the48thward.org or 773-784-5277 with questions.
MARGATE PARK PUMPKIN PATCH
When: Saturday, October 19 from 10am-2pm
Where: Margate Park (4921 N Marine Dr)

Come by Margate Park on Saturday, October 19 to pick a pumpkin and enjoy carnival games, inflatables, music, and a photo station! This is a Zoo to You event meaning a mobile zoo will visit the pumpkin patch so that attendees can feed animals. Learn more online.

After the 48th Ward Halloween Parade, keep the celebration going with the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce! Join neighbors for Halloween on Catalpa at 1500 W Catalpa from 11am-4pm, go Trick-Or-Treating at participating businesses from 12-3pm, and don't miss the GUS Spooktacular! Dance Show at 3pm! EDGEWATER TRUNK OR TREAT

Join St. Andrew’s us for their inaugural Edgewater Trunk or Treat. All are welcome to decorate their trunk, pass out candy, or do just one of the two - the event is free for all!
BOO! AT THE PARK - PARK 559

Join the West Edgewater Area Residents Association (WEAR) at Andersonville’s newest park, Park 599, for a family-friendly Halloween event! Have a blast with pumpkin decorating, kids games with guaranteed prizes, candy, treats, tattoos, Halloween crafts AND SO MUCH MORE. Come in costume and you’ll be entered into a raffle to win big prizes like free tickets to the Chicago Botanic Garden and Brookfield Zoo!
PUMPKIN PATCH AT GETHSEMANE GARDEN CENTER

It’s that time of the year again - Gethsemane's pumpkin patch is open! Enjoy festive fall vibes; a straw bale maze; and the arrival of pumpkins, gourds, and more. Come on Saturday between 10am and 2pm for face and pumpkin painting!
CONTRIBUTE TO OUR DAY OF THE DEAD OFRENDA
From Wednesday, October 30 to Thursday, November 7, help us honor those we've lost. Bring in photos of community members and other loves ones who have passed to our shared ofrenda at the 48th ward office (1129 W Bryn Mawr).

Don't trash it, smash it! After Halloween, bring your pumpkins to the annual Pumpkin Smash so that they can be composted! Be sure to remove any lights and candles beforehand. Sign up to volunteer at this event.
