Proposal to Designate Edgewater Glen as a National Historic District

Edgewater Glen Association (EGA) logo

The Edgewater Glen Association is working to make Edgewater Glen—bounded roughly by Hood, Norwood, Broadway, and Clark—a National Historic District. On October 3, the Commission on Chicago Landmarks nominated the neighborhood for consideration by the Illinois Historic Sites Advisory Council. In late October, 2024, EGA representatives will present the proposal in Springfield!

Alderwoman Manaa-Hoppenworth was proud to provide a letter of support for this proposal. Read it in full below.

Dear Members of the Commission on Chicago Landmarks,

I am writing this letter in full support of the nomination of the 48th ward’s own Edgewater Glen Historic District to the National Register of Historic Places.

This historically and culturally important district is a beloved gem of our ward and I am delighted that we are recognizing the rich history and architecture of the district, while also encouraging the rehabilitation and preservation of such a cherished community.

Thank you in advance for your consideration of this nomination and I look forward to the results of this committee’s deliberation.

Sincerely,
