6320 N Broadway (Bakeree Dispensary): Zoning Change Request Decision

Please review the following statement from Alderwoman Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth:

After careful consideration, I have decided to support the zoning change request for 6320 N Broadway, from B3-1 to C1-1. The applicant(s) and contingent building owner, Walter Leaphart & Liberator Illinois LLC, hopes to open a dispensary and provide a boost to the Granville Corridor.

The applicant has agreed to numerous safety and lighting measures, and has received the endorsements of the direct neighborhood-based organization(s). Dispensaries are not only subject to strict safety standards, but the applicant also intends on owning the building (subject to zoning change approval) and being an invested member of the community and of the ward.

Our 48th ward Zoning Advisory Council (ZAC) consists of neighbors in our community who are interested in land-use and development. Resident feedback was considered and questions were brought up as ZAC members met with the applicant, Walter Leaphart. The ZAC recommended that the zoning change be approved based on the conversations, endorsements, and safety measures that are required for dispensaries.

I’d like to thank our residents of the 48th ward for reaching out to our office and submitting feedback for this zoning change request. I look forward to continuing to engage with all 48th ward residents moving forward.
