Public Safety Update: 6000 Block of Kenmore (March, 2025)

Public Safety Update: 6000 Block of Kenmore

Over the past few months, we have continued our focused work to reduce violence and improve safety on and around the 6000 block of N Kenmore. Key initiatives since our previous update in August, 2024 include:

  • New POD Camera: PODs (Police Observation Devices) are operated by the Chicago Police Department and are equipped with 360 degree rotation, night time surveilance, and ability to withstand harsh weather. In addition to a new POD camera in the alley, the exisitng OEMC camera on the block remains operational.

  • March 6 Police Roll Call: Police Districts hold roll calls to deliver information and set the tone at the beginning of a shift. Public rolls calls are one tool we use to help bridge the gap between police and the larger community, offering neighbors a chance to meet local officers and commanders. Police Districts 20 and 24 came together for a roll call on the 6000 block of N Kenmore on March 6.

  • Increased Lighting Wattage: At the request of consituents, we worked with the Chicago Department of Transportation Division of Electrical Operations (CDOT - DEO) to secure higher-wattage lighting for the 6000 block of Kenmore.

  • New Alley Baiting System: By cooperating with the Department of Streets and Sanitation (DSS) to systematically bait alleys, we have managed to significantly reduce rodent complaints in this area of the ward.

  • New Trash Provider and Receptacles: Due to encouragement from our office, a major management company on the 6000 block of N Kenmore has switched to a new waste management provider with different trash receptacles. These improvements will help maintain the cleanliness of the alley.

  • Continued Special Attention: Our office has continued directing special attention toward this partof the ward through collaboration with city departments (DOB, DSS, and CDOT), communtiy orgnanizations, police, and local landlords/building managers.

We encourage our neighbors to join Leni at the upcoming meeting for Beat 2433, which includes the 6000 block of N Kenmore, on Tuesday, March 18.

Public Safety Update: 6000 Block of Kenmore (August 14, 2024)

We are actively working to reduce violence on and around the 6000 block of N Kenmore area through the following key initiatives:

  • Increased Police Patrols: We have worked with the 24th and 20th Police Districts to establish an increased police presence in the area. We have secured a second security guard at the Broadway Armory.

  • Evictions: Two evictions of individuals with alleged connections to illegal activity on the block have been made in partnership with the Sheriff’s Office and the Building Manager. In addition, non-renewal letters have been sent to a number of tenants.

  • Arrests: Several arrests have been made with alleged connections to illegal activity on the block. Investigations are ongoing. If you have information related to a specific incident on the 6000 block of Kenmore, contact Area 3 Detectives at 312-744-8261. If you have general information about activity on the block, please call the anonymous tip line at 833-408-0069.

  • Violence Interrupters: We support the efforts of violence interrupters, Communities Partnering 4 Peace (CP4P), who are active in the area. They work on the ground to prevent violence before it happens, de-escalate conflicts between groups, and support families after violence occurs.

  • Positive Loitering: We have co-hosted positive loitering events. Dozens of neighbors came out to a Meet Your Neighbors event with the Alderwoman and CPD. Join the NEBA Block Club to hear about these events.

  • Canvassing: The Alderwoman and detectives have been out canvassing the area and speaking with neighbors.

  • Cameras: We have worked with CPD to put a camera in the middle of the 6000 block of N Kenmore. In addition, building owners and property managers on the block are encouraged to participate in the Private Sector Camera Program, which links private camera systems to the OEMC system.

  • CPS Coordination: We are coordinating resources to assist our Principals in their efforts to support our young people and their parents. We have secured the Safe Passage Program at Swift and Choose to Change Program at Senn.

  • Ongoing Collaboration: We are working in collaboration with CPD, the Sheriff’s Office, CP4P, CPS, landlords, and community leaders.

  • Ongoing Communication: We maintain constant communication with local organizations and city services to promptly address any issues related to safety and city services in the corridor. Neighbors can sign-up for Crime Alerts from our office.
