Beyond the Waters was created by local organizations to provide adaptive recreation on the lakefront and highlight the incredible beach walks which are accessible to the entire Chicago disability community. The event is expected to draw more than 500 attendees including over 200 people with disabilities. Join us in August for music, food, and activities!
Celebrate Disability Pride with the Library
Celebrate individuals with disabilities during Disability Awareness Month in conjunction with the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act in July. Whether you have a disability yourself or are an ally looking to learn and grow in your support of others, Chicago Public Library invites you to celebrate with us all month! Chicago Park Distirct Special Recreation Programs
The Chicago Park District is a national leader in serving individuals with disabilities. Starting in 1965, park employees began to be trained on ways to better serve Chicago citizens with disabilities. In 1968, Chicago became the birthplace of the Special Olympics with the park district playing an integral role in its development. Today, the Chicago Park District strives to enhance the lives of Chicagoans with disabilities by providing a variety of recreation and leisure opportunities. Find accessible parks programming here.
