CCPSA Approves New General Order G01-11

In early February 2025, the Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability (CCPSA) approved G01-11, a general order that sets geuidelines and expectations for how the Chicago Police Department (CPD) engages with the CCPSA and with District Councils. What is General Order G01-11?

  • Under the CCPSA Ordinance, the Commission has the authority to review and approve “General Orders” outside the Consent Decree

  • G01-11 sets guidelines and expectations for how CPD engages with the Commission and elected District Councils.

Why Does this Matter?

  • Establishes clear expectation for CPD to engage with the District Councils and address their input/concerns

  • Creates structured collaboration processes with he Commission

  • Ensures accountability and transparency in CPD’s engagement with the Commission adn District Councils

  • Strengthens community engagement and oversight

Key Highlights of G01-11

  • CPD will train its members on the CCPSA, including the roles of the Commission and District Council

  • CPD will designate and official liaison for CCPSA coordination, including tracking and fulfilling requests for information

  • CPD will engage with District Councils through regular check-ins and attending public meetings

Improving Information Access

  • CPD must document, track, and respond in writing to Commission and District Council data requests

  • CPD must follow up within 14 days and explain any delays or denials

Strengthening Community Engagement

  • CPD District Leadership will attend District Council public meetings and participate when requested

  • Establishes regular check-ins between CPD and District Councils

  • Requires CPD to explore training opportunities with the Commission, District Councils, and CCPSA staff.

A Collaborative Effort

  • This General Order was based on a priority proposed by the District Councils at their 2023 Annual Meeting

  • The Commission and CPD worked for 9 months to refine this order

  • Recevied feedback from District Councils adn community members across the entire city
