Edgewater Synagogue Hosts Solidarity Shabbat Event to Welcome New Arrivals

For Immediate Release:

February 21, 2024

Edgewater, Chicago - Emanuel Congregation, a prominent synagogue in Edgewater, is set to host a Solidarity Shabbat event on Friday, February 23, 2024, to demonstrate support for new arrivals currently residing at the Broadway Armory Shelter. In collaboration with Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth, Alderwoman of the 48th ward, the Jewish community of Edgewater has united to provide essential supplies and resources to families currently staying in shelter in the community.

The Solidarity Shabbat event aims to bring together members of the community in a spirit of unity and compassion, reflecting the values of kindness and social responsibility central to the Jewish faith. Through this event, Emanuel Congregation and its partners seek to address the pressing needs of families experiencing homelessness and displacement, particularly during the harsh winter months.

"We are honored to extend a helping hand to families facing hardship, providing essential supplies and resources to ensure their well-being and dignity," said Cantor Michelle Drucker Friedman of Emanuel Congregation.

With the support of volunteers and community donors, Emanuel Congregation and its partners will distribute a range of important supplies, including hygiene products, winter wear, and CTA Ventra Cards to families residing in the Armory. The event will also feature opportunities for community members to connect, share stories, and offer support.

"We are demonstrating the power of solidarity and compassion, showing that when we come together as a community, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those facing hardship," said Alderwoman Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth.

The Solidarity Shabbat event will take place on Friday, February 23, 2024, at Emanuel Congregation, located at 5959 N. Sheridan Road. All members of the community are invited to participate and contribute to this important initiative.
