Alderwoman Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth joined 100+ other electeds in signing onto a statement in support of the Museum of Contemporary Art’s choice to form a union under the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Council 31. Chicago was crucial in the beginnings of the labor movement and remains a union town to this day. Everyone deserves a safe and healthy place to work and should be free to advocate for themselves accordingly. Read the full statement below:

I support Museum of Contemporary Art employees, their voice, and their choice to form their union. Their work helps to create a sense of community through providing a place to discuss and contemplate art, culture and issues of the day that make MCA treasured by our city. Through the collective voice of the Museum of Contemporary Art Workers United, they will advocate for a just, safe and equitable workplace for museum employees at every level. MCA resources should not be wasted on anti-union consultants, meetings, or propaganda. MCA employees should be free to make their decision on whether or not to support the union without employer interference or intimidation.
