Happy Lunar New Year

many photos from lunar new year celebrations

We were so honored to celebrate the Year of the Dragon with so many wonderful community organizations. Early this month, we kicked it off with the Vietnamese American Community of Chicago and the Asian American Coalition of Chicago. On Saturday, State Rep. Hoan Huynh's team and ours joined over 20 other elected officials at the Chinese Mutual Aid Association's annual Lunar New Year event at Truman College.

For lunch, we joined Southeast Asia Center at Furama. From there, we visited with folks from Sun Wah, then walked in the Argyle Parade with so many neighbors. We were thrilled to attend Fat Milk's ribbon cutting on Broadway and Argyle, and that evening, we attended the UNITY 40th annual Chinese New Year Party!

This week, we also shared the joy of the lunar new year with the rest of the city at the County Building where Mayor Brandon Johnson, Cook County Commissioner Josina Morita, and 11th ward Alderwoman Nicole Lee helped us feed the dragons after watching their traditional line dance.

This month has been a unique opportunity to celebrate the diversity of our community and government; thank you to 48th ward neighbors and community leaders for sharing it with us.
