Local School Council (LSC) Elections

Comprised of parents, community, educational, and student members, Local School Councils (LSCs) serve as an important vehicle for participatory democracy, providing a wide variety of stakeholders an opportunity to make important decisions about how students in their communities will be educated. Chicago LSCs are currently looking to fill open seats. Here are a few ways to get involved:

1. Run as a candidate for your Local School Council
Serving on an LSC provides a unique opportunity to engage with your local school community and play an active role in making decisions. Parents as well as community members may run for this elected position. Interested candidates must submit an application and two forms of identification. Learn more and apply here. Applications are due on February 8.

2. Serve as an election judge
Chicago Public School (CPS) is looking for election judges for the Spring 2024 LSC elections. Elections will be conducted in person at individual schools in April. Election judges earn $275 a day. To learn more or access the application, send an email to LSCJudge@cps.edu

3. Vote in your LSC election
All community members 17 years and older can vote in the LSC election at their neighborhood school with proof of residential address. You are not required to be a U.S. citizen or to be a school parent to vote. Learn more about when, where, and how to vote in LSC elections here.
